Folded Rocks at the Silver Strand (Donegal)

An Trá Bhán

An Trá Bhán, the Silver Strand is a horseshoe shaped cove on the south-western shoreline of the wild Donegal peninsula not far away from the sea cliffs of Slieve League. It was my second visit to this place after a trekking journey around Donegal in summer 2011. Not just the scenery of the secluded beach with the cliffs and mountains around is worth a visit. Also the results of shear folding are clearly and beautiful demonstrated by the rocks at this beach. Alas, I forgot my tripod at this day so all pictures have been taken with high sensitivity due to fading light on a cloudy and windy January afternoon. Nevertheless I think the pictures have a decent quality to show the interesting forms and colours. The scale of the pictures differs a lot, sometimes you find a reference to estimate it. Enjoy!
