Another world compared to the Fremrinámar: Cold fog and icy snow took over as we approached the Ketilhyrnur

Two days later we approached the Mývatn again: A lush vegetation greeted us!

The last leg led us once more to the colourful sulphur deposits of Ketildyngja (Fremrinámar) while we still enjoyed the good weather. Freezing temperatures during the nights led to very good walking conditions on the widespread snow fields which were soft and wet during the day. We visited Lúdent (the nonfamous counterpart to Hverfell) and the dacit lava "dome" of Hraunbunga before finally arriving back to civilization at Hverarönd after fourteen days in the Mývatnsöræfi. But at this normally very crowded area we encountered just a few sheep at four in the morning...

Route: Hvammfjöll - Ketildyngja - Ketilhyrnur - Heilagsdalsfjall - Hárandir (Lofthellir) - Lúdentaborgir - Lúdent - Hraunbunga - Ytri-Heiðarsporðahóll - Hverir (Hverarönd) - Námafjall - Reykjahlíð (Mývatn)

Ódáðahraun, Mývatnsöræfi, Ketildyngja, Krafla, Myvatn, Sunrise, Ketill, Trekking, Primordial — Ketill and the Ketilhyrnur seen from Ketildyngja. The steam from Kröflustöð rises far in the north.
