Öskjuvegur

Back on Öskjuvegur we surrounded the black and forbidding lava flow from 1961 on bright pumice deposits. Then the trail heads north along a chain of mountains (Litlakista, Storakista, Dyngjufjallháls) towards a small hut below the perfect shield of Kollóttadyngja and the well known spires of Bræðrafell where we camped near the FFA hut. We reached the oasis of Herðubreiðarlindir after another detour three days later...
